Saving, saving....SHOP!

Sam and I have been saving a lot of our money to get a deposit for a house...but being the online shopping addict that I am (and I know I'm not alone here...) I have gotten myself a few things here and there...

I scored this bakelite and lucite brooch from Ebay

This lamp was a great find on Gumtree, and it was only around the corner from out house! We were lucky that someone else never showed up to look at it, so we scored it for a neat $50 (hey, that is cheap in Australia!) I can not wait to have this in our future lounge room, sitting on our danish-style lounge reading a book (or blogs) under the lamp...one day!

If you haven't seen or heard of Luxulite, check out their Etsy shop for lovely jewellery and brooches...I went a little mad but it was worth it!

I also have a few things on lay-buy at my friend's shop, which includes this stunning dress...it is a deadstock polished cotton boned dress, with plastic-ish roses sewn on, and with a shawl....it is the most expensive dress I have bought so far, but if I was to find this beauty in Sydney, Melbourne or etsy it would be twice the price! I can't wait to wear it out.

A girl has to treat herself every now and then, don't ya think?

Move over Moxie Minx- Powderpuff Boutique's in town!

I have been soo busy the last few weeks, I just haven't had time to do a decent post on anything! Only 10 days til our wedding, so things are a little busy at the moment.

Any way, I just wanted to take a moment to tell all my gorgeous followers, and any other lovely people who are stopping by this little ol' blog, about my friends Paula-Jane's clothing lable. PJ is not only a dressmaker extrodinnare, but a shimmying go-go dancer, full time mum to her gorgeous austistic 4 year old son, Rocket, and a fabulous lady all round! I don't know how or where she gets her energy and enthusiasm from, but she has bucket loads of it, and it makes me jealous! ; )

Paula launched her vintage inspired clothing lable back in 2009, under the name Moxie Minx, but over the last year or so, has been forced to change Moxie Minx's name, thanks to a big bully sanitary item company. This has cost Paula alot of time, stress and money! But nothing gets this talented lady down! Paula has just re-launched her lable under the new name, Powderpuff Boutique.

If you like, please, check out her brand spankin' new website HERE, and support a hard workin' momma! Or got and 'like' Powderpuff Boutique on facebook!

These are a few of my favouite items, all designed and made by Paula-Jane

Sunday Market Crawl

Yesterday, Sam and I got up at the crack of dawn, and headed off to a swap-meet at the Greyhound Racing Track, in Angle Park. There was lots and lots of car stuff, but nothing for out '52 Pontiac, and no pretty things for me! That was until we were leaving and Sam spotted a cute picnic basket. Yay!
After having the mandatory swap-meet breakfast (bacon and egg sandwich...mmmm), we decided to head off to the Brighton High Boot Sale. We came away witha few treasures, so all in all, it was worth getting up so early. Here is what we scored....

Picnic Basket- $5

1950's Decanter- $2

Bar Set- $2

And my favourite find of the day......

1950's atomic lamp $8!!

It needs a bit of work- the fibre glass shade needs to be screwed back on, (thats why it looks a little lop-sided) and I might have it re-wired, just to make sure it's safe.
I also got a gorgeous 50s/60s umbrella with a bamboo handle (I love bamboo), and Sam scored a great hand tooled leather wallet, both $5.

So, did anyone else score some weeked bargains?

Busy bee or just lazy me?

Wow, it's been a little while since I posted some thing on this little blog o' mine! There have been lots of things going on in my life at the moment, like organising our upcoming wedding, and my wonderful Gran passing a few weeks ago. I think about her and miss her every day. She was one of my best friends, and held our family together. I'm glad I got to spend her last weeks by her side, and when she was in her final days, she was content and surrounded by her loving family. What better farewell could you ask for?

Any way- we had a long weekend, and Sam had his first saturday off in a long time! We were house/pet sitting for my Auntie and family, in the beautiful suburb of Prospect, just outside the city.

Friday night, we went to see Fireballs, The Sin & Tonics and The Saucermen at Enigma bar. It was a fun night, with a few too many drinks drunk, LOTS of cheap jagerbombs, dancing, singing, and back bends...but thats another story! We ended up at Hungry Jacks at about 4.30am, got our junk food fix, and headed home. I was glad that it wasn't just me with a sore head in the morning ;)

The rest of the weekend was alot more subdued, watching DVDs and eating thai. We headed out to the city for some shopping and yummy greek food.

We found some Tiki mugs at Dangerfield, for only $30! Here they are at our house....

I also got myself a little something...a new camera! Yay! Now I don't have to rely on my iPhone camera all the time. I am by no means a good photographer, but I am looking forward to learning how to adjust the settings, not just using automatic or the art settings to make pretty pictures hehehe.

My new camera!

Here's some photos we took playing around with it...

I hope everyone had a great long weekend too, and a wonderful week to come!

Outfit Post- Tuesday Blue

I had such a great day today...I wasn't feeling blue at all, but my pretty new dress sure is!
I picked it up from Red Ruby Vintage in the city. I got to start work late today, which finally gave me a chance to get into Red Ruby, seeing as they are only open Tuesday to Friday, the same hours I work. This dress has been hanging around the shop for a while, waiting for someone to take it home. It is one of those dresses that looks a bit "nothing" on the hanger, but I loved the print and the adroable bows, so when I put it on, I was pleasantly surprised. Oh and it was reduced! Which makes me feel a bit better for spending money when I really shouldn't be!
I have to say this shop is definatly one of the best in Adelaide. All of Gail's clothes are beautiful, and fairly priced...and Gail herself has a wealth of knowledge about vintage clothing which is so helpful for all those ladies out there wanting to know more about different eras of clothing.
Please excuse the crappy iPhone photos, our camera is on the fritz!

I also went to the Adelaide Central Markets, one of my favourite places in our city. It is always buzzing with people and there are so many wonderful personalities about the place.
This is what I wore today....

Outfit details- 50's/60's homemade dress- Ebay, Cardigan- Tempt, Shoes- 18th birthday gift

I was pretty pleased with my hair, it took me about 3 minutes! Yay! Although it stared to rain in the afternoon and went a bit frizzy, but hey, there's nothing a little hairspray can't fix :)

Saturday Shopping + an outfit

This morning I got up bright and early and headed to the Adelaide Central Markets to do our food shopping for the week.
I love going to the markets! The food is fresh and cheap (my sister works in a continental deli...cheap cheese for me!), and every time I go there at least one person gives me a lovely compliment about my hair or the way I dress...now every girl loves that, don't they?!

I wore a skirt I found at a "vintage" store in Glenelg called Rewind. It is mainly filled with 80's clothes, which many people my age consider vintage, but I usually have a look in there any way. The pattern caught my eye, so I had a look at it and  saw it had a metal zipper so I am assuming it would have been home made by someone in the 50's....I checked the price and it was only $20. Yay!

Vintage Skirt- Rewind, Top- Tempt, Belt- ?, Shoes- Miss L Fire

I adore these shoes! So cute and comfortable.

Close up of my hair...just about time to get my colour done!

I got myself a little sum' sum'....some beautiful flowers and some CD's from Mr. V's Music

I was on youtube this morning and was watching a clip for Special Brew by Bad Manners and realized I had lost the CD with that song on it so I just had to go out and buy myself the album. Even though the song is about booze, I like to sing it to Sam- cos I do love him and want to spend all my money on him...well all my leftover money after buying dresses of course! If you like ska, watch the clip...there is some great skanking!

Well must be off...time to make dinner and get ready to go and see a show with some girlfriends tonight!
